David Hartley, CPA, CISA
Principal | UHY LLP
This award honors CPAs who have made significant contributions toward advancing the profession. Nominees are evaluated on their foresight, innovation, leadership, promotion of the profession’s goodwill, dedication to the development of others, and commitment to enhancing the future of the CPA profession.
At a time when emerging technologies are set to change the way CPAs operate, David Hartley’s creativity, innovative spirit and willingness to share his expertise have rendered him a sought-after resource in his field.
David focuses on the positive impact technology will have on the future. He sees the opportunities AI and accounting automation will have for CPAs, and then identifies and develops tools for his firm to use in serving and adding value to clients. His colleagues appreciate his unique ability to explain technology matters using non-technical terms.
Known for his leading-edge guidance, David leverages his CPA and CISA credentials combined with public-company executive experience to advise others on technology strategies to help protect and grow their businesses. He created a “Seven Step Personal Action Plan” for CPAs to use in educating themselves and their clients on how to prevent fraud and safeguard themselves from a data breach.
Likewise, he encourages educators to embrace change and share that enthusiasm with their accounting students. As chair of the SIU Carbondale School of Accountancy Board of Advisors, he assisted with a redesign of the university’s accounting information systems curriculum. In the community, David serves as an officer on the board for Memory Care Home Solutions, where he has helped dramatically expand the organization’s reach in helping those impacted by Alzheimer’s.
